Tartan Restaurant in Linville

Great country cooking, planned, prepared and served by people who love and enjoy what they are doing. Eat at the Tartan often and are always greeted with a friendly welcome and a smile. Food is always tasty and perfectly prepared. Serving are overly generous. Prices can't be beat. Love these people and this place.

I travel to eat at places like this. My plate was composed off menu with no issues. 2 eggs, livermush(!), corned beef hash, toast, and beautiful amazing bright red tomatoes. Amazingly $8.

My first time there. I had a bacon cheeseburger that was really good.

The Scot motif here is ubiquitous and kind of fun. My burger was quite good and my wife enjoyed her 3-cheese (with pimento cheese) sandwich. Added an extra star since they are close to the parkway. We would visit again if we were in the area.

Love their biscuits and gravy!! We eat breakfast there everytime we are in the area.

Nothing! Is Scottish about this place. Except the name. Decent food.

This was our 1st time to get some food & spend time together. The food is delicious and the staff was wondering. Highly recommend it to anyone else

Great food, great people and excellent scenery!

We use to go there for the great food, and warm staff. Recently, however, they've hired a young man who obviously has no customer service experience. Let's be honest, when you go to a restaurant you want to enjoy the experience. This young man wants to throw you down and run off. If you make a request for different seating he becomes upset and often just plain rude. We've overlooked it a handful of times chalking it up to sensitivity as he has some hearing issues. This last time I just had had enough! I decided to vote with my feet...we left and I doubt we'll be back. Ironically, this was my favorite restaurant and we use to eat there 2 or 3 times per week. Always enjoy a great breakfast and great service

My boyfriend and I had just left Grandfather Mountain and were looking for somewhere cozy and local to eat. We got sat and about 10 minutes later they took our drink/food order. The waitress was rude and didn’t greet us just simply commanded we order then and there. After that we never saw her again, never got our drinks, and 30 minutes past. I then saw an employee smoking a lit cigarette in the kitchen. Safe to say we walked out (never got our food or drinks so nothing to pay for 🤷🏻‍♀️).

Although I was glad to see The Tartan doing great business Friday, the 3rd of July, and knew I’d probably need to wait for my pickup order, I didn’t expect an hour wait time. Because of poor phone service, I had to go inside to order and was told about 30 minutes to wait. I went in twice after that to finally get my food. I ordered two croissants sandwiches with everything on it (cheese, lettuce, tomato, etc) with the soup of the day, which I was told was chili. When I finally got my order, the sandwiches were smushed with nothing at all on the turkey sandwich and only cheese on the roast beef. The soup was vegetable. In one bowl it looked like it contained only vegetables and in the other bowl it was watered down, tomato soup. Other times I’ve dined there, it was good. This time, I was very, highly disappointed. Definitely not worth $20.

Fast service good food I'll go back again when I'm around

The club sandwich and potato soup are delicious!

We have been visiting this restaurant for years when we stay at Sugar Mountain. Their prices are very reasonable and the food is always delicious. We've only ever eaten breakfast there. Our eggs are always cooked perfectly. Maybe someday we'll get around to trying lunch. Adam was our waiter this morning and he was very pleasant.

Breakfast reminded me of Granny's homemade biscuits and gravy. No one has ever come close to her recipe. Very good and the waitress was so sweet.

It took about 45 minutes to get our foid after we ordered but the food was delicious and the wait wasn't too long.

Nice place to stop for breakfast. Great prices and the people were very nice. Something for everyone. Their pancake selection was great. Food taste fresh, everyone enjoyed their selection.

Nice folks working here. Just a little pricey for what we had. Actually showed up a few minutes before closing and they went ahead and seated and served us. Alot of places would just tell you they were closing for the day.

We eat here every day we are in the area. Friendly service along with friendly customers. Can't go wrong with the breakfast, sandwiches, salad bar or the daily special. Always well prepared and a good value.

First of all this restaurant does not offer even a single vegan or vegetarian food. The 40+ age waitress is a BIT##. She took wrong order from me and when I asked her to replace with a correct order she acted like I have asked for her wealth. Honestly, so much disappointment in this small place was a surprise.

Wonderful breakfast! I was raised in these mountains & the biscuits & gravy are just like I remember my Maw Pearl's! Its either ham or tenderloin gravy, not sausage gravy from a can or a pouch! Biscuits are as light & flaky....mmmmm! Can't wait to bring my husband back! I ALMOST got the quiche.......SO glad I didn't! Now I have something to try for lunch!😉 😋

Food was mediocre, decor was super outdated, most of the servers were friendly, but the host/busboy acted as if he didn't want to be there nor be bothered to answer simple requests. The chicken salad had so much mayonnaise that it was soupy and difficult to keep between the bread. The grilled cheese, chili, and fries were pretty good.

I love the Tartan. It's a staple experience while in the High Country. Always great food and sandwiches, and their lunch special never disappoints. They have a salad bar as well, and serve an awesome breakfast, too!

If you are up in the Linville area of NC, you really need to try The Tartan! Drove up to Avery County to get a Fresh off the farm (Sam's Farm) Christmas tree. And decided to eat at The Tartan since it was open. Great sandwiches and plates available. Today's specials was flounder, shrimp plate and trout. I had the Shrimp with fries, slaw and dessert. Wife had the Flounder with the same sides. Both were good and plenty of food. Happy Holidays Everyone

Good food and friendly staff but very slow. Also our waitress sat down at a nearby employees table and ate her breakfast while we waited a really long time for ours. What we ordered was simple but it took about 30 minutes.

Great, simple, delicious, straightforward breakfast food. Staff are friendly, experienced & efficient. We visit often & will continue to do so.

Wonderful atmosphere. Not a tons of Scots food but the food they have is pure goodness. They have an all you can eat salad bar. Well worth an add.

The Tartan is always a good bet. Good food. Good service. Moderately priced.

Restaurant was plane but the wait staff was super friendly and attentive. The Salmon club sandwich would be worth coming back for.

Stick to the salad bar if you are a stickler for fresh veggies and fruits. The omelettes don't look appetizing because they're covered in greese, but still taste excellent and doesn't bother my greese-sensitive stomach. Service was wonderful!

Ordered breakfast and then after waiting 20 minutes watched our waitress have her breakfast before getting ours. Waited way too long for our food and another 5 minutes to have someone come to the register to pay the bill. Food was good.

Great place to eat breakfast. Good coffee, great food, and friendly people. Prices were great for the amount of food you get. We will be coming back in the future.

Great place to get some southern food. Parts of blue ridge parkway were closed so this was our detour going south. Just stumbled upon it and decided to have lunch there. They serve breakfast all day which is great. Order some eggs, home fries, butter milk biscuits, fried okra, sweet potato fries. I loved the fried okra and sweet potato fries. Very courteous staff. A young man cleaned the tables and seated us promptly. Overall the food and service was great.

I will start by saying the breakfast was very good. Eggs cooked perfect, liver mush was crispy on the outside. Delicious. 5 stars to the cook for sure. The service was not so great. Waited 5-10 min before we could order drinks. It was almost an hour before we got our food from the time we walked in. Service 3 stars. Decorated nice and pretty clean. We will be back for sure.Edit; Just left and the food was great. Service was still subpar.

The salad bar is second to none and I say this because of the sad and the fruit in the summer. Not a big fan when they take the fresh fruit off in the winter. Friendly staff also!

Food was amazing. We had a large group and the restaurant was very accommodating to us.

Food is very good, but a bit pricey. I hated to see they took the jalapeno poppers off the menu tho :/
